Germany tightens security, asylum policies after deadly festival stabbing

The German government unveiled a proposed package of stricter security and asylum measures in response to a deadly stabbing spree linked to the Islamic State, which has intensified far-right opposition and criticism of Berlin’s migration policies.

The attack, which occurred last Friday during a festival celebrating Solingen’s 650th anniversary, resulted in three deaths and eight injuries.

The incident has sparked renewed political debate over asylum and deportation regulations, as the suspect was a Syrian asylum seeker whom the government had been unable to deport.
