Students who attack teachers in Italy risk fines ranging from 500 to 10,000 euros according to a government amendment approved by the Senate culture committee.
Attacks on teachers have hit the headlines lately after a teacher was slightly wounded after being stabbed in the back by a student.
The fines will be levied against anyone who assaults members of staff, head teachers or administrative personnel at Italian schools, said the amendment to bill on assessing student behaviour.
The fines would be payable to the school involved.
