The Health Ministry confirmed that four new cases of coronavirus in Malta were identified during the past 24 hours, from 1137 tests. There were also ten new recoveries, bringing down the number of active cases to 108.

The total number of infections has reached 615.

Malta’s low new case count continued yesterday with one patient contracting the novel coronavirus. However, the country registered its seventh death since the onset of the pandemic, a 97-year old man who also had other underlying conditions. The total number of infections in Malta reached 612, with 114 still being active.

This morning’s Times of Malta leads with an exclusive story that the authorities are planning to reopen Malta’s airport for passengers by mid-July. However, the article claims that half the scheduled air routes have been wiped out because of the pandemic. In recent days, business lobbies, particularly the hotels and restaurants association, which has been demanding vociferously for a re-opening of Malta’s airport.

This news was reportedly welcomed by doctors but slammed by hoteliers.
