Five of these cases were identified from a further 146 tests carried out at Hal Far Open Centre.
The other cases concern two Maltese persons, one of whom a health care worker, and an Englishman.
Malta’s tally has now gone up to 458. On the positive side, the Health Superintendent announced 17 further recoveries were registered, for a total of 303.
Active cases now stand at 151. Only one person remains hospitalised in Intensive Care.
Questioned about vaccines, Prof Gauci argued that despite the research and trials going on, the world was still a long way from producing a vaccine. For the time being, the authorities’ aim will be to reduce infections.

______________
Malta continued to see a positive trend emerging on Monday, with just two new infections announced, taking Malta’s tally to 450. Four others have now recovered, meaning that Malta has 160 active cases.
In a statement, yesterday, President George Vella stated that we should show great gratitude to those who have guided and taken care of our health in the last few weeks, especially to the heroes who, with great professionalism and dedication, were at
the forefront of the fight against Covid-19.
Vella added that “the low number of new cases that we are having does not mean that Covid-19 has stopped attacking us, but rather that the measures introduced by the health authorities, together with the public’s cooperation and sacrifice, are having the desired effect. We should take heart for what is to come in order to leave this episode behind us, and to roll up our sleeves to get the economy back on its feet and reinstate a
normal social life.”
Inspections
121 persons were fined €100 each during the continuous patrols that the Police are doing to ensure that there are no groups of more than 3 persons gathered in public places, as per the legal notice issued by the government.
