Malta commemorates 101st anniversary of Sette Giugno

Malta today commemorates the 101st anniversary since an uprising against British Rule which was key to establish Malta’s parliament. A commemorative event was held on Saturday (6th June) in Valletta and the cemetery in Marsa.

Wreaths were placed at the monument in Valletta by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the Mayor of the Capital City.

MaltaToday reports “Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia made an about-turn in his Sette Giugno speech, first paying tribute to the 1919 events that sparked the riots against the British colonisers, and then complaining about the ‘immaturity’ of the December 2019 protestors who were spurred on into action by an unprecedented political crisis.”
