During a public discussion organised by the Labour Party, PM Robert Abela expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with MCAST lecturers soon. Abela emphasised the government’s commitment to securing a fair agreement for MCAST lecturers, similar to those reached with educators in state, Church, and independent schools, ensuring equity for both educators and students. MCAST lecturers and Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) members recently protested outside the college’s administration building, voicing concerns over the institution’s management. The government has already signalled its belief in educators by agreeing to the strongest ever package for teachers in state, church and private schools, Abela insisted. (Maltatoday)
Grech calls for better planning system
PN leader Bernard Grech called for a planning system focused on building stronger communities rather than prioritising economic development at the cost of quality of life. Speaking to supporters in Nadur during a political dialogue with local leaders ahead of next month’s budget, Grech emphasised the party’s holistic approach to planning. He stressed that new construction projects should not automatically lead to a decline in the quality of life in the surrounding areas. (Times of Malta)
Malta’s connectivity still lagging pre-Covid levels – reports
Both last summer and the upcoming autumn/winter season have seen fewer destination connections compared to 2019. The Malta International Airport (MIA) recently released its schedule for autumn and winter 2025, revealing that Malta will be connected to 84 airports across 76 cities in 31 countries throughout Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. This represents a reduction from the autumn 2019/winter 2020 season, when Malta was linked to 113 airports across 104 cities in 38 countries before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
