Power cuts are an issue of distribution not generation – PM
Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that despite the government’s €55 million investment to enhance the electricity distribution system, Enemalta’s workers “have not yet had sufficient time to complete all the necessary tasks.” When asked on One Radio about the measures being taken by the authorities to address the power outages, Abela explained that the issue lies in distribution, not energy generation. “We have sufficient generation capacity to meet the country’s needs,” the Prime Minister noted, citing the power station, interconnector, and renewable energy sources. Abela reiterated that “the country has a distribution problem” and emphasized that although significant efforts have been made by Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, Enemalta CEO Ryan Fava, and Enemalta’s workers over the past winter, there is still more work to be done. Political responsibility should be shouldered on power cuts – PN
Energy Minister Miriam Dalli and the government should accept ‘political responsibility’ for this week’s power outages, Bernard Grech stated on Sunday. The PN leader made his comments at the end of a week marked by multiple power cuts across Malta. While most outages lasted only a few hours, Gzira and some areas in Gozo experienced power loss for nearly 24 hours on Saturday. Speaking on the Nationalist Party’s radio and television stations, Grech directly blamed Prime Minister Robert Abela and Dalli. “This crisis was predictable because the government has not kept up with the growing population. Just a few weeks ago, Dalli assured us that we wouldn’t experience power cuts this summer,” Grech said. He criticised the government for insufficient investment in the energy grid.
