President George Vella met the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at Downing Street today.
In his meeting, Johnson underlined the UK’s commitment to a strong relationship with Malta and to continuing to work together to strengthen our economic and political ties.
The leaders discussed regional security issues, including the situation in Libya and the need for all parties to support peace talks to end the violence.
“We discussed the most important issues which are education, health and interests of people on both sides,” the president said.

They also looked ahead to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Rwanda and agreed it would be an important opportunity for countries to address shared priorities such as climate change and free trade.
During the meeting, Johnson expressed his appreciation towards Malta’s pivotal role in its region.
The Express pointed out that Boris Johnson showed no signs of letting the Covid-19 outbreak dissuade him from shaking hands, as he welcomed the Maltese president George Vella with a firm embrace on the steps of Number 10. It added saying that as on Thursday morning, Malta had no reported cases of coronavirus, although nearby Italy is the epicentre of Europe’s outbreak, where at least 100 people have died and more than 3,000 have the Covid-19 illness.
