Man expected to be charged with murder of British backpacker in New Zealand as investigators found body

A man in Auckland, New Zealand, will be charged with the murder of a British backpacker who was last seen entering a hotel a week ago, the day before her 22nd birthday, the police in New Zealand said Saturday.

Detectives investigating the murder of British backpacker Grace Millane have found a body. Officers had earlier identified a countryside road on the outskirts of Auckland as a “location of interest”. Scenic Drive is roughly 15 miles away from the CityLife hotel where Ms Millane was last seen on 1 December. SkyNews

New York Times reports that Detective Inspector Scott Beard said officers, at the time of the announcement, had not  yet found the body of the victim, Grace Millane, but had concluded that she had been killed.

A 26-year-old man, whose name was not released, will appear in the Auckland District Court on a murder charge on Monday.
