President Roberta Metsola urged European leaders to take decisive action to assert Europe’s global influence.Speaking at the European Council, she address covered critical topics, including the war in Ukraine and EU enlargement, while calling for unity, leadership, and strategic direction.
Metsola stressed that Europe’s future hinges on its ability to stay united. “If there is one thing that will define our continent in the coming years, it is our capacity to remain united in purpose,” she said, urging leaders to build on achievements in 2024 and strengthen Europe’s global position in 2025.
The ongoing war in Ukraine was a focal point, particularly concerns over reduced U.S. military support under a potential Trump presidency. Metsola called for intensified efforts to achieve “true and lasting peace,” defined by dignity, freedom, and justice—not a version dictated by Russia.
She reiterated the importance of backing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Plan Formula, emphasizing, “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.” As winter approaches, Metsola highlighted the European Parliament’s efforts to protect Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and called for mobilizing global allies to ensure the country remains a priority on the international stage.
