Migration, Military developments and Coronavirus discussed between Al-Sarraj and Conte

Fayez Al-Sarraj in a phone call with the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on discussed the ongoing developments in Libya, both in military and health fields as the Tripoli offensive by Khalifa Haftar’s forces and Coronavirus pandemic are still sweeping through the country.
Al-Sarraj and Conte, according to the media office of Al-Sarraj, reviewed Tripoli and Rome’s cooperation in combatting Coronavirus outbreak and in helping Libya also regain its security and stability amid the ongoing offensive against Tripoli.
During the phone conversation, the Italian Prime Minister expressed concerns about the continued supply of weapons to Libya by several foreign parties, reaffirming that Italy stands with the return to political process as per the UN Security Council resolutions and Berlin Conference conclusions to end the conflict in Libya.
The Italian Prime Minister also indicated that it is very crucial that the Libyan oil production is resumed and exports are back on track, as they are the main source of revenue to the Libyan state and citizens.
Al-Sarraj added that arms are still being supplied to Haftar and foreign support for him and his forces have encouraged them to continue their aggression on the Libyan capital, requesting from the Italian Prime Minister some assistance in removing IEDs and mines planted by Haftar’s forces in residential areas in southern Tripoli.
The two officials also discussed EU’s Operation IRINI as Conte said the naval mission is not biased and is committed to neutrality in all of its operations off Libya’s coast, as Al-Sarraj reiterated that the mission should include operations in land, sea and air borders.
