Moderate earthquake registered near Norcia, Italy

A series of earth tremors were registered in central Italy early Sunday morning in the same area which was hit by a powerful earthquake in 2016 and 2017.

The most powerful tremor registered by the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) was that of 4.1 early Sunday at a depth of 8km and with the epicentre 4km from Norcia, in Perugia, 13 km from Arquata del Tronto in Ascoli Piceno and 14 km from Accumoli in Rieti.

After the initial tremor, there were a series of other tremors with an intensity that varied between 3.2 and 2.2.

So far there have been no reports of any damages.

Nearly 300 people were killed by an earthquake in that same area in August of 2016 that had an intensity of 6.2.
