New Zealand unveils wellbeing budget

New Zealand has unveiled its new financial budget which places a heavy emphasis on the “wellbeing” of citizens, over economic growth or other priorities.

At an event on Thursday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her finance minister, Grant Robertson, said billions of pounds will be spent on mental health services, child poverty, homelessness and domestic violence.

“One message I want to repeat is this – I have always said that politics is all about priorities. You have a limited budget and you have to try and balance the need to grow the economy, create jobs, balance the books, and look after our people and our environment,” Arden said according to the New Zealand Herald.
