Newborn tests positive for coronavirus in Italy as death toll reaches 79

A newborn baby girl from Lombardy has tested positive for the coronavirus but is not in a serious condition, Higher Health Institute (ISS) President Silvio Brusaferro said Tuesday.

“She came out positive to the swab, she is not intubated, she was already in a phase of post-natal assistance,” he said. “The clinical evolution is considered normal, as far as we know”.

79 people have now died and 2,263 people have been infected with the Coronavirus outbreak.

Some 160 people have recovered.
