Northern California has been hit by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake.

The tremor was said to have hit 40 miles south of Eureka. There is no reports of any Tsunami warnings in the area, with people describing a ‘rolling earthquake’.

Residents complained of feeling the floor rocking as the tremor hit Northern California, with the centre around 878 kilometres north of Los Angeles.

One witness told EMSC: “It lasted a few seconds, maybe 10. Tables started shaking and felt like I was swaying back and forth.”
