Nutella goes vegan on 60th birthday

Nutella has gone vegan on its 60th birthday.
The maker of the iconic spread, Ferrero, has just introduced a milk-free, plant-based version, recognisable by its green top.
Nutella is a brand of brown, sweetened hazelnut cocoa spread introduced by Ferrero in 1964. The vegan spread, also suitable for people who are lactose intolerant, replaces milk with plant-based ingredients such as chickpeas and rice syrup, offering the same taste and texture as the original Nutella recipe.

It will be distributed starting in September through organized large-scale retail channels in Italy, France, and Belgium in the 350-gram format, and it will reach other European markets in 2025 and the new plant-based Nutella is produced in Italy, at the Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi factory in the province of Avellino.

The group has spent five years of research on this new product. The goal is to triple sales of vegan chocolate products, which in the first seven months of the year reached 6,7 million euros, in a global market of 434 million.
