At least one person has died after a ‘violent incident’ at a school in a shopping mall in Finland, according to police.
Officers confirmed they had used firearms and one person had been taken into custody in Kuopio, to the east of the country in the Northern Savonia region.
At least nine people were also injured during the incident.
A police spokesperson said: “According to current information, the incident in Kuopio occurred at the premises of the Savo vocational school located in the Herman shopping centre.”
One witness told Finnish news site MTV News the attack had been carried out by a student with a sword.
Early reports falsely indicated a shooting had taken place.
