Prior to the G7 summit in Biarritz form 24 to 27 August 2019, Johnson on Wednesday met Angela Merkel and today meets French President Emmanuel Macron.

In the talks, Johnson is expected to try to resume the Brexit talks, so that it will not come to a ‘no deal’ exit of the United Kingdom from the EU on 31 October 2019.

On Wednesday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel suggested a solution to the backstop – a key Brexit sticking point – might be achievable within 30 days.

The British Prime Minister said he was “more than happy” with that “blistering timetable”.

But later on, Wednesday, Mr Macron insisted reopening negotiations on the issue was “not an option”.
