Luca Parmitano is a European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut. He completed his first six-month mission to the International Space Station, Volare, in 2013 and is currently serving as the third European and first Italian in command of the International Space Station. During his six-month Beyond mission, Luca will support over 50 European experiments in microgravity and carry out four spacewalks to service the cosmic ray detecting Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer AMS-02.
