Prince Andrew announces that he’ll step back from public duties for the foreseeable future

The Queen has given permission for Prince Andrew to “step back from public duties for the foreseeable future” amid criticism over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the duke said in a statement, reported by The Guardian.

The Duke of York also said he was “willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required” over the Epstein probe.

Sky News reported the news saying that he was stepping back from public duties for the “foreseeable future” following criticism of his TV interview about his links to Jeffrey Epstein.

The development came as BT has said it would not work with a company that counts Prince Andrew as patron, amid a growing exodus after the duke’s unrepentant interview about his friendship with Epstein and pressure from a woman who says the convicted child sex offender trafficked her to London to meet the royal and have sex with him, a claim Andrew denies.

In his statement, Andrew said: “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support.
