Russia said on Tuesday 174 people with the coronavirus had died in the past 24 hours, a record one-day amount that pushed the nationwide death toll to 3,807.
Officials reported 8,915 new cases on Tuesday, pushing its overall case tally to 362,342.
Among high profile cases in the country, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, returned to work this week after receiving treatment for the illness in hospital.
Late last week there were also rumours that the leader of the Chechnya region, strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, was receiving treatment for a suspected coronavirus infection. This news was however not confirmed by officials close to Kadyrov.
Health authorities also announced that 118,798 people have recovered yesterday, supporting an announcement that allowed industrial and construction workers to return to work in the capital.
