Sardinia Among Italy’s Top Five Destinations for Extended Holidays in 2023

According to a study published this week by the Sardinian branch of the artisans association Confartigianato, based on ISTAT data, Sardinia was one of Italy’s top five regions selected for long holidays (lasting at least four nights) in 2023.

Despite this, in terms of overall tourist presence, Sardinia ranked 14th, attracting 3.2% of visitors. Lazio led with 10.2%, followed by Campania with 4.6% and Sicily with 3.7%, as reported in the “Towards the Summer of 2024” dossier by Confartigianato Sardinia, utilizing figures from last year’s tourist season provided by ISTAT.

The dossier revealed that Emilia Romagna was the most popular region overall for holidays in Italy, accounting for 12% of tourists, with Tuscany (9%) and Trentino (8%) following. For holidays lasting four or more nights, Emilia Romagna remained the top choice (11%), trailed by Puglia (8.9%), Trentino (8.5%), Calabria (8.5%), and Sardinia (8.2%).

Foreign tourists, on the other hand, predominantly visited Bolzano (70.5%), Veneto (69.3%), and Lazio (63.7%).
