Saving Julen – Breakthrough achieved during the night – Operations to continue today – Latest

Nobody expected on Sunday January 13 that the emergency call to 112 requesting a ransom would become such a complicated mission. Ten days after Julen, two years old, fell down a narrow and deep well, the works against the clock and with the hope of a miracle.

Did Julen fall?

The exact place where the child is expected to be found has not yet been found. His parents told how he fell through the hole and it is the testimony to which the agents give validity.

On Sunday, the 13th, at night, samples of soil were taken from inside the well and 48 hours later a DNA analysis certified the existence of biological remains that coincided with those of their parents and their own bottle. Also found a bag of worms that the little one had in his hands before falling.

Rescue operation

During the night, rescue operators managed to reach their goal of completing a 60-meter deep tunnel, parallel to the well in which Julen fell 10 days ago. On Wednesday afternoon, the rescuers and engineers found some complications at the back of the gallery which has forced them to reduce the diameter of the cylinder in its final section, according to the Government Sub-delegation in Malaga.

But after almost 24 hours of work, the huge tube structure has been placed in its position.

Although in a first attempt a mobile phone was inserted tied to a rope to see how the small one was, later it was possible to use a robotic camera made available to the operative by a specialized company. However, when it reached 71 meters deep , it hit a sand plug. It was tried to eliminate the obstacle with different suction modalities, but they could barely scratch a few centimeters of dirt because the materials were very compact. It is the moment in which other rescue formulas began to be analyzed.

Now there are some complementary tasks, such as  adding a 12-meter pipe supplement,to secure the work of the mining rescue brigade, starts the most dangerous part of the rescue.

When this work is finished, the Hunosa Salvage Brigade miners will have to descend into a metal capsule through the perforation and excavate about four meters horizontally to where the minor is believed to be. This operation will take a maximum of 24 hours, according to Ángel García Vidal, coordinator of the operation.
