Italy Hit by Severe Atlantic Storm: Orange Alerts in Tuscany and Campania
Italy is currently contending with an intense Atlantic weather system delivering widespread severe conditions across much of the country, with a particular concentration along the Tyrrhenian regions and the South. The Civil Protection Department has issued a critical bulletin, activating an orange alert for hydrogeological and hydraulic risk in specific sectors of Tuscany and Campania, where the most abundant and persistent rainfall is expected.
Elsewhere, a broad yellow alert is in force, covering twelve regions: the entire territories of Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise, Basilicata and Calabria, along with significant portions of Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Apulia and Sicily, and the remaining areas of Tuscany and Campania not included under the orange notice.
Snow is also returning, expected over the eastern Alps above 1,000–1,200 meters and on the highest peaks of the central Apennines. In light of these critical conditions, several local administrations—particularly in the Naples area and parts of Tuscany—have opted, as a precaution, to close schools for the day.
