Third of 371 Boeing 737 Max in operation grounded

A third of the 371 Boeing 737 MAX jets in operation have been grounded. The vast majority of them, 97, fly with Chinese airlines. China is currently the aircraft’s biggest customer. US airlines are number two with 72 aircraft in service.

Meanwhile Australia Civil Aviation Authority suspends Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to or from Australia.

These are the 12 airlines with the most Boeing 737 MAX jetliners:

Southwest Airlines: 34 aircraft – Southwest Airlines has the largest fleet in the world the 34 planes.

Air Canada: 24 aircraft – Air Canada is the in a three-way tie with American and China Southern with 24 planes.

American Airlines: 24 aircraft – American has 24 Boeing 737 MAX 8s in its fleet.

China Southern Airlines: 24 aircraft – China Southern is China’s largest airline and home to the country’s largest 737 MAX fleet with 24 planes.

Norwegian Air: 18 aircraft – Norwegian Air currently operates 18 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. The airlines has a total order for 110 737 MAX airliners.

Air China: 15 aircraft – In December 2018, Boeing delivered its first China-made Boeing 737 MAX to Air China.

TUI: 15 aircraft – Leisure travel airline TUI operates 15 Boeing 737 MAX across its various brands.

United Airlines: 14 aircraft – The United Airlines operates a fleet of 14 Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.

Flydubai: 14 aircraft – The Dubai-based low-cost carrier operates both the 737 MAX 8 and the larger MAX 9.

Spicejet: 13 aircraft – The Indian low-cost carrier has roughly 200 Boeing 737 MAX on order.

WestJet: 13 aircraft – WestJet operates a fleet of more than 120 Boeing narrow-body and wide-body airliners.

Turkish Airlines: 12 aircraft – Turkish Airlines operates both the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9.
