Two children aged 11 and 15 were among four people shot dead in the Sicilian town of Licata on Wednesday as a man exterminated his brother’s family.
Angelo Tardino, 48, then attempted suicide while on the telephone with Carabinieri police after killing his brother, his sister-in-law and their two children.
Tardino had fled the scene after the massacre.
The Carabinieri managed to contact him via telephone and were trying to convince him to turn himself in when they heard a shot and realized he had attempted suicide, the sources said.
The Carabinieri police initially thought Tardino was dead but then noticed he was still breathing when they go to him.
He has been taken to Caltanissetta’s Sant’Elia hospital in a critical condition where he later died.
