Maltese Customs have seized the greatest drugs haul in the history of national enforcement in Malta after seizing tons of drugs suspected to be cannabis resin. Between 10 and 11 tons of drugs were found in four containers, three marked supposed to be holding kitchen dishwashing powder and another container marked as containing blow torches. The containers arrived at the Freeport from Syria and were en route to Libya. Customs Officials found the haul after carrying out an inspection of containers using new advanced technology scanners. Forensic Officials are analysing the haul. Initial analysis carried out on the find indicates that the street value of the haul is €28.5 million. – TVM

A family whose Birzebbugia properties were requisitioned from them in 1980 – for government use, but later transferred to the Labour Party – has called on the Labour Party to vacate the premises. In a judicial letter filed by Franco Grima and the Ellul Sullivan family it was claimed that the property owners were being paid just over €1,000 in annual rent for a large seafront house in the centre of Pretty Bay, Birżebbuġa and the property next door, which has been linked to the club. A banner in memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia was returned to activists after it was cleared once again on Monday night. Cleansing Department workers, acting on the orders of the Justice Minister, were instructed to remove the banner commemorating the murder of the journalist, activist Manuel Delia said, citing a police inspector. This is censorship. This breaches our fundamental rights of expression. If we’re doing something illegal, they should come to arrest us, because we are doing it in broad daylight. Times of Malta

A United Nations report, prepared by its Panel of Experts on Libya, has uncovered information about suspected illegal activity involving fuel smuggling by vessels operating off of Malta’s coastline. The report, which was presented to the UN Security Council, contains details of the Panel’s findings up to mid-July 2018. MaltaToday
