The UK has once again registered an increase in deaths exceeding that of the  preceding day. 569 people lost their lives according to latest data, propelling the tally to just under the 3,000 mark. The eldest victim had celebrated his 100th birthday.

In a statement, the Department of Health indicated that 33,718 people have now contracted the virus, collating figures from the four different home nations. 44 of the deaths concerned people with no known underlying health conditions.

In a worrying development, the British Medical Association (BMA) published new ethics guidelines for doctors directing them to allocate life-saving ventilators to healthier patients with a higher chance of survival, to the detriment of older patients.

A spokesperson for Johnson told Sky News “We’re following the guidelines from Public Health England (PHE) and from the chief medical officer which state that you need to self-isolate for a period of seven days, so no change in that.”
