UK counts another 761 deaths as 106-year-old becomes oldest person to recover from Covid-19

The United Kingdom has registered another 761 coronavirus-related deaths in its hospitals today. The Department of Health said that 12,868 persons have now lost their lives since the start of the pandemic. Close to 400,000 tests have been taken, with practically a quarter of which have tested positive.

NHS England said that 651 coronavirus patients had died in hospitals in England, taking its total to 11,656. The eldest patient was 101 years old.

Scotland had the largest increase in deaths to date, at 84.

Among this constant flow of bad news, stories of impressive recoveries restore faith and hope. Today, a 106-year-old woman became the oldest patient to recover and be discharged from hospital. Connie Titchen, who is a great-grandmother, was originally hospitalised for suspected pneumonia but was found to be positive with COVID-19. The woman, from Birmingham, was hospitalised for three weeks but has now been given the all clear.
