“We were preparing for the minute of silence in the Municipality for the coronavirus victims when suddenly we heard a loud roar, the tremor, and out of fear we all went out, strictly respecting the due safety distances”.

Barbara Paron, mayor of a small town in the Ferrara area, Vigarano Mainarda, and president of the province of Ferrara told Italian Agency ANSA.

Around 11.35 am an earthquake of magnitude 2.9 was recorded with an epicenter at one kilometer from Mirabello (Ferrara) at a depth of 8 kilometers.

So far there’s no report of damage.

The municipality of Vigarano is a few kilometers from the epicenter and the entire territory was hit hard by the 2012 earthquake in Emilia.

“With all the bad memories that the earthquake evokes – said Paron – we did not want this fear in a moment. of such great concern. In the Municipality, however, we were very few for the minute of silence.
