The Guardian reports that all 20 passengers and crew onboard a vintage plane that crashed in the Swiss Alps on Saturday were killed, police have confirmed.
The authorities also confirmed that the aircraft involved was a JU-52 HB-HOT aircraft, which was flying from Locarno near Switzerland’s southern border to the airline’s base in Dübendorf, Zurich.
Local media and aviation websites had earlier reported that the plane, which seated 17 passengers along with two pilots and a flight attendant, was fully booked.
In a statement the company confirmed that the JU-Air Ju-52 crashed on Saturday, August 4.
“The JU-Air team is deeply saddened and thinks of the passengers, the crew and families and friends of the victims. ”
The wreckage of the plane was in a basin at 2,450 metres (8,000 feet) above sea level surrounded on three sides by peaks, a Reuters witness said.
Rescuers and helicopters were at the scene.
