386,282 cases, 26,110 deaths – How the Coronavirus pandemic is spreading across Europe? – Update (31st March 2020)

Greece’s death toll rose by seven to 49 in the last 24 hours. The health ministry also reported 102 new confirmed cases, bringing the nationwide total to 1,314. Twenty of them were among the crew of a cruise ship in the port of Piraeus; all 383 crew members were tested. Greece has so far carried out 16,732 tests.

The migration ministry said today that a woman living in a refugee camp in Ritsona, northeast of the Greek capital, tested positive for coronavirus. The woman was tested after being taken to an Athens hospital to give birth on Sunday. Her baby and its father have also been tested but their results were negative. Authorities are now trying to trace everyone she may have to come into contact with.

In Cyprus, one person died over the last 24 hours, raising the total number of deaths to nine. Local officials announced 37 new confirmed cases today, raising the total number to 331, of which 69 live on the Turkish Cypriot side of the divided island.

A total of 867 people have been infected with coronavirus in Croatia, according to local health authorities. Six deaths have been recorded and 67 people have recovered.

Luxembourg’s health authorities registered one additional death from COVID-19 today, raising the number of deaths to 23. So far, 2,178 people have tested positive for coronavirus, including 1,883 Luxembourg residents and 295 non-residents. 17,511 tests have been carried out, according to the latest data provided by the country’s health ministry.

Romania has had 2,245 cases of coronavirus so far — an increase of 293 new infections over the past 24 hours, the health ministry said today. Of those reported to have contracted the virus, 220 have recovered and 72 have died.

There are 62 people in intensive care at the moment, of whom 36 are in a serious condition. Romania has tested some 24,600 people for the virus so far.

North Macedonia and Albania have each reported two more deaths, raising the death toll to 12 and 13, respectively. In North Macedonia, 44 new cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, with the total number reaching 329. A total of 3,518 tests have been carried out so far. Albania registered 20 more cases, bringing the total to 243.

The Dutch death toll has increased by 175 to reach 1,039, according to the country’s public health institute. The institute cautioned that the actual death toll is higher, as only patients who tested positive are counted if they die of COVID-19.

The number of new confirmed cases is 845, bringing the total to 12,595. Because not everyone is tested due to a lack of capacity, the actual number of infections is higher, the institute says.

An additional 722 patients have been hospitalized, more than on Monday (507). The Dutch government will hold a press conference tonight on the extension of existing measures.

According to health authorities, Portugal now has 7,443 confirmed coronavirus cases, 1,035 more than on Monday. There have been 160 deaths so far and 43 recoveries. 4,610 people are awaiting laboratory results.

French health authorities reported a record 499 new deaths from coronavirus on Tuesday, taking the total to 3,523, an increase of 17 percent in the past 24 hours. Thiswas the third consecutive day that the rate of deaths accelerated in France, which is now in its third week of lockdown to try to slow the spread of the virus.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Poland has increased by 256 since Monday and has reached 2,311, the Health Ministry stated on Tuesday evening. On Tuesday morning, the Ministry announced 77 COVID-19 cases, which was followed by the afternoon report about another 83 people infected. In the evening, another 96 cases were confirmed.  A total of 33 people have succumbed to the disease so far.  The ministry reported on Monday that a total of 42,783 samples have been tested for coronavirus in Polish laboratories.  At the moment, 1,924 people are hospitalised, 171,994 have been put under quarantine, while 50,804 are under epidemiological surveillance.

In Malta there were 13 new cases, where for the first time the amount of local transmissions was higher than imported cases.
