Walliams fee reflected in strong marketing for Malta – Tourism Minister

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo insisted that British author David Walliams played a key role in promoting the Maltese film industry on a global scale. Referring to the recent revelation of British comedian David Walliams’ €120,000 payment for hosting the Malta Film Awards in January 2022, the Minister highlighted the necessity for the Maltese film sector to engage in both local and international marketing efforts, citing Walliams’ involvement as part of a broader marketing strategy. Bartolo, speaking on Wednesday, reported positive indications that 2023 has been a “record year for films” in Malta, attributing this success to effective marketing. (Times of Malta)

New rules announced for construction in Gozo

The Planning Authority announced that it will now require unpainted and unrendered lower globigerina limestone (franka softstone) on the street façade of Gozitan buildings in urban areas.
To preserve, enhance and promote the unique spatial characteristics of Gozo, that make it distinct from mainland Malta, the Planning Authority (PA) said it has issued a circular called Designing for Gozo’s Distinctiveness. The circular highlights how the PA will adopt a more Gozo-specific approach in the interpretation and applicability of existing policy and guidance statements that concern design principles for future development applications in Gozo. Archbishop calls for self-reflection during Lent

In a homily delivered at Sarria Church in Floriana to mark Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, Archbishop Charles Scicluna urged the congregation and the people of Malta to engage in a time of self-reflection, prayer and fasting. Additionally, he suggested the collective recitation of the Maltese national anthem as a unified prayer for the nation. Emphasizing the core meaning of Lent, Archbishop Scicluna explained the significance of the three acts of charity, prayer,and fasting as essential elements of this sacred period. In his sermon, the Archbishop also stressed the importance of these actions not just as external displays but as authentic expressions of one’s connection with God and oneself. (Newsbook)
