NATO Ministers warn that it is ‘pretty obvious’ Putin does not want peace

European Nato foreign ministers expressed growing frustration with Russia on Wednesday, warning that President Vladimir Putin shows no signs of pursuing peace in Ukraine.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna told reporters that Moscow’s stance remains unchanged, noting that Russia is escalating its offensive. “What we see is that Putin has not changed any course. He’s pushing more aggressively on the battlefield. It’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t want to have any kind of peace,” Tsahkna said.
Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen echoed the sentiment, highlighting the absence of concessions from Moscow. “So far we haven’t seen any concessions from the side of the aggressor, which is Russia, and I think the best confidence-building measure would be to start with a full ceasefire,” she said.
The ministers made their remarks upon arriving at a meeting of Nato foreign ministers in Brussels, signalling a united front in condemning Russia’s continued aggression. Their statements underline the ongoing challenges facing Europe and its allies in achieving any diplomatic breakthrough, as military action intensifies in eastern Ukraine and the humanitarian toll rises.
The comments come amid continued Nato support for Ukraine, including military aid and strategic coordination, as the alliance stresses that a lasting resolution will require Moscow to halt hostilities.
