Malta will host a high-level gathering of European healthcare leaders on 26 November, as the inaugural HekaTech Health 2026 conference brings together policymakers, regulators, industry experts and patient advocates to discuss innovation, access to medicines and sustainable healthcare.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will contribute a recorded video message, while Dr Armando Magrelli, Head of the International Relations Office at the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) and Italy’s alternate representative on the European Medicines Agency Management Board, will bring extensive expertise in European medicines regulation, including rare diseases, gene therapy and innovative treatments.
The conference will also feature Marios Kouloumas, Honorary President of the Cyprus Federation of Patients’ Associations and former Vice President of the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR), highlighting the importance of patient involvement in healthcare decisions.
Industry perspectives will be provided by Gerard Harkin, Head of Social Value and Sustainability at Roche Diagnostics UK & Ireland, alongside international experts Prof. Anastasios Sepetis and Fotios Rizos of the University of West Attica, Greece, who specialise in sustainable healthcare, ESG and sustainable finance.
Maltese contributors include Kenneth Briffa, Chair of The Malta Chamber’s Healthcare Executive Committee, Isabella Zahra Pulis, Dr Kristel von Brockdorff of Mater Dei Hospital and Chiara Scerri Herrera of St James Hospital.
“The future of healthcare in Malta depends on our ability to deliver innovation responsibly and sustainably, ensuring that patients have equitable access to the advances they need,” said Joanna Gatt, from HekaTech Health’s organising committee.
