Malta Today reveals that lawyer Arthur Azzopardi, who was appearing for one of the suspects in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, has formally renounced his brief. Azzopardi told the paper he took decision with his partners but did not offer reasons.

The Independent on Sunday says that the dismantling of the fuel storage tanks in Birżebbuġa is still pending approval by the Planning Authority. The paper says that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced their demolition during the election campaign in 2017.

The Sunday Times claims that migrants who took part in the Ħal Far riot last week were mistreated by prison officials. The paper says there were manhandled, packed into cells and humiliated. The Correctional Services Agency denies reports of abuse.

Illum speaks to a former General Workers Union official who used to represent Asylum Agency workers. He said that the agency’s administration put up resistance to police presence at the Ħal Far open centre.

It-Torċa quotes a statement by the General Workers Unions condemning comments that incite racial hate. The union appealed to everyone, including politicians, to consider the consequences of their words.

Il-Mument covers an interview discussing irregular immigration with PN Leader Adrian Delia. He said that the party wants to be humane with the weak and destitute but strong with those who abuse of them.

Malta Today says that Johann Buttigieg, whose term as Planning Authority CEO ended on Friday, is interested in taking the top jobs available at either the Tourism Authority or Mater Dei hospital.

It-Torċa speaks to Professor Carm Borg about the revolt in Ħal Far on Sunday. The academic said that, although Malta grew a reputation for hospitality and help to others, the nation has never been comfortable with integration of foreigners.

The Independent on Sunday speaks to former PN media chief Pierre Portelli following rumours that he may contest the role of party Secretary General in November. Portelli confirmed that he has been encouraged to run but said he is not interested.

Kulħadd says that PN members against leader Adrian Delia are pushing for a change in the statute that forbids MPs Clyde Puli and Kristy Debono from re-contesting for official roles in the party administration.

Illum reports that residents in Swieqi found suspicious markings on their houses raising the alarm about targeting by thieves. The paper says that the police have been notified and are investigating.

Kulħadd publishes an analysis of the budget reactions by the Prime Minister and by the Opposition Leader. The paper says that the latter made 10 factual errors during his two-hour speech.

Il-Mument carries a story about ‘astronomical salaries’ running into the hundreds of thousands paid by the public to people close to the Prime Minister which, the paper says, is their only qualification for the positions they occupy.

Kulħadd says that the films industry in Malta is having a good year and has already attracted €24 million in productions in these first 10 months. The paper says this is almost double the figure registered in 2018.
