Chinese police raid fake Lego factory

Police in China have uncovered a gang accused of manufacturing and selling $30m worth of counterfeit Lego.

Officers raided a Chinese toymaker which was allegedly manufacturing fake Lego products, under the name of Lepin, in the southern city of Shenzhen, arresting four people. The police found 10 assembly lines and over 90 moulds.

A police statement said the toys, including an imitation Star Wars set, were copied from Lego blueprint and more than 630,000 finished products were seized. The fakes were reportedly being sold at a fraction of the price.

The raid comes as China seeks to strengthen intellectual property rights, with the number of trials hitting a record high last year.
