Corporate Dispatch Malta Newspaper Review

Good morning,

These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Times leads with the reaction by the Council of Europe to the Caruana Galizia public inquiry. Rapporteur Peter Omtzigt said that the composition of the committee does not meet the expectations of the Council’s Parliamentary Assembly.

The Independent also carries recommendations by Peter Omtzigt who suggested that the inclusion of international experts in the inquiry would help to overcome any ‘reasonable criticism’ about the inquiry’s independence and impartiality.

L-Orizzont announces a €12 million agreement between the government and the church to provide 190 beds for the elderly every year. Parliamentary Secretary Anthony Agius Decelis said the investment will guarantee the best conditions for residents and staff.

In-Nazzjon quotes an opinion article published in the EU Observer which said that Malta is risking financial blacklisting over corruption scandals. The article says the country has developed into an ‘excellent location’ for money laundering.

The Independent quotes an Air Malta spokesperson who said that the carrier was one of the first to comply with new Airbus A320neo safety directive by the European Aviation Safety Agency. The body discovered an issue with the aircraft’s centre of gravity in July.

The Times reports that state schools have suffered internet outages all week, affecting many lessons. The Education Ministry did not explain the cause, but the paper says the issues followed a migration from internet provider GO to Melita.

L-Orizzont says that a new scheme will make electric scooters available to elderly visitor to Valletta with mobility difficulties. The scooters will be stationed close to the bus terminus and are equipped with a tracking system.

In-Nazzjon says that the PN immediately accepted the resignation of its Treasurer after videos of him trying to access adult content emerged. The paper draws a comparison with Cyrus Engerer, who has been retained by the PL despite declared guilty of spreading revenge porn.
