Draghi’s EU economic blueprint gets delayed again

Mario Draghi’s highly anticipated report on enhancing the EU’s economic competitiveness is likely to be delayed until September, according to sources close to the former Italian prime minister.

Draghi, renowned for saving the euro as the European Central Bank chief, has been tasked with creating a blueprint to help EU businesses compete with the US and China.

The report, initially expected this month, is almost certain to be postponed to September. Meanwhile, Ursula von der Leyen is focused on securing MEP support for a second term as European Commission President.

The report will feed into a wider debate on what the EU needs to do for its next legislative term. The report was originally scheduled to be presented by the end of last month, and the timing is yet uncertain.
