EasyJet and BA owner set to cut European flights because of coronavirus outbreak

EasyJet and the owner of British Airways are to cancel European flights because of the coronavirus crisis as global markets face their worst week since 2008.

The budget airline and IAG have both seen a fall in demand because of the growing outbreak, which has led to travel bans and cancelled bookings.

EasyJet is also to introduce a pay freeze as part of a cost-cutting drive.

IAG was the main loser on the FTSE-100 of leading UK companies in early trading with shares down nearly 8%.

Willie Walsh, chief executive of the firm which also owns Aer Lingus, told Sky News uncertainty around the epidemic meant the business was unable to provide accurate profit guidance for 2020.
