Fireworks are further out of favour in the Netherlands, with 57% now backing bans at a town or city level, according to research by I&O for local government magazine Binnenlands Bestuur.
In addition, 50% of the 2,000 adults questioned for the research support a total ban on consumer fireworks, with 45% in favour and 5% don’t knows.
In addition, almost two in five people think the window for setting off fireworks should be further restricted.
At the moment, consumers are only allowed to set off fireworks from 6pm on December 31 and 2am on January 1.
