Several international issues and especially Libya were on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting between Italian foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian.
A statement issued by the French foreign ministry shortly before the working dinner between the two said they would concentrate on several international issues, ”especially Libya, after the Berlin Conference. They will reiterate the link between our two countries on the weapons embargo as well as the implementation of a ceasefire.” Le Drian and Di Maio will also take stock of the ”situation in the Sahel, where France and Italy are involved, in particular, as part of the Sahel Alliance”. They also planned to discuss Iran, Syria, and the Middle East peace process, as well as ”important European priorities, such as future relations with the UK and enlargement”.
The meeting is being held two weeks before of a highly awaited bilateral summit between France and Italy on February 27 in Naples.
