Italian bank UniCredit to lay off 6000 and close 450 branches

Italy’s biggest bank UniCredit is to lay off 6000 staff in Italy and close 450 branches, it told unions on Monday.

The payoffs and closures are contained in a 2019-2023 plan.

Some 500 are redundancies from a recently completed plan and 5,500 are new redundancies linked to the Team23 plan, the bank said.

It communicated the plan to unions in order to be able to start procedures.
