Nicolette Ghirxi’s funeral will be taking place tomorrow at the Church of the Divine Mercy in Naxxar, Ghirxi’s family said on social media. They added that the funeral will be taking place at 8:30AM and asked mourners who will be attending to avoid wearing black. “As we gather together in her honour, we kindly ask that guests avoid wearing black. Nicolette was a vibrant soul who brought energy and colour wherever she went, and so, we ask that guests wear colours to reflect the joy she spread,” her family wrote. The women was found dead inside her Swatar apartment last Monday, and was believed to have been murdered by her former partner Edward Johnston, who was later killed himself after a confrontation with police. Children commissioner opposes lowering of age of consent
Children’s Commissioner Antoinette Vassallo expressed her opposition to lowering the age of sexual consent to 14. In June, the Court of Minors urged the Government to consider reducing the age of consent, citing the increasing prevalence of sexual activity among individuals under 16. This appeal arose from a case involving a 15-year-old boy and his 14-year-old partner, both of whom were charged in court with corrupting each other and engaging in sexual activity with someone under 16, as the law considers individuals of this age group vulnerable. Commissioner Vassallo said that a 14-year-old may lack the maturity needed to make such a decision. However, she clarified that there is a significant difference between cases involving individuals of similar ages, like the one in question, and situations where there is a larger age gap. (TVM News)
