Ghirxi lawyer accuses police of dereliction of duty
Nicolette Ghirxi might still be alive if the police had done their duty instead of allowing her killer to play games with them, according to her lawyer. When police called Edward Johnston for questioning last April, he ridiculed them, claiming he was in Dubai to “top up my tan” and daring them to “notify Interpol” if they wanted to speak to him. These email exchanges, which date back to April, were released on Wednesday by Ghirxi’s lawyer, Joseph Borda. Ghirxi had reported to the police that her ex-boyfriend was harassing her. Borda criticized the police for failing to protect Ghirxi adequately, as they did not act on the harassment reports she had been filing since April. They also could have taken action after he ignored their requests for interrogation, the lawyer added. (Times of Malta)
