Ryanair to serve Malta with three new routes

Ryanair unveiled plans to expand its Malta routes, introducing three new destinations starting at the end of March. The low-cost airline will now include Rome, Norwich, and Belfast in its roster, bringing the total number of destinations served to 67. For flights to and from Belfast, Ryanair has scheduled services on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while Norwich will be served on Mondays and Fridays. Commencing March 31, there will be two daily flights to Rome’s Fiumicino, except for Fridays when three flights will connect Malta to the Italian capital. (Maltatoday)

EC takes Malta to task on flood risk management

The European Commission has implemented decisive measures against multiple member states, Malta included, due to their failure to fulfill obligations outlined in EU environmental directives. Despite prior warnings, Malta has yet to submit comprehensive reports concerning their third river basin management plans and second flood risk management plans. Considering Malta’s inadequate efforts, the European Commission has deemed it necessary to take legal action, escalating the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union. (Newsbook)

New Paceville junction project revealed

The junction linking Swieqi and St Julian’s is slated for a substantial upgrade as part of a major infrastructure project, mirroring a similar setup in Kappara a few kilometers away. Unveiled in a technical briefing on Wednesday, the initiative involves the removal of the existing traffic light junction on Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli. Instead, new entry routes into Swieqi and St Julian’s will be constructed, accompanied by a revamped traffic organization system to replace the current narrow underpass beneath the existing traffic lights. Infrastructure Malta highlighted key enhancements, emphasizing improved traffic flow management and turning movements into Swieqi and St. Julian’s. The project aims to optimise entry and exit points, ensuring more effective transportation. For pedestrians and active mobility users, the initiative introduces new footpaths and an upgraded pedestrian link to replace the current vehicle underpass between Triq is-Swieqi and Triq Santu Wistin.
