A recent report reveals that Malta’s air contains more than twice the recommended levels of pollutants set by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the 2023 World Air Quality Report released by Swiss air quality technology company IQAir on Tuesday, Malta averaged 12 micrograms of fine particles per cubic meter last year. These fine particles, which measure just 2.5 millionths of a meter (PM2.5), include pollutants like sulfates, black carbon, nitrates, and ammonium, and are approximately one-fiftieth the width of a human hair.
