Civil Protection officials and an army helicopter were deployed to assist a 21 year old British woman who found herself in difficulty after falling in the Riviera bay zone in Gnejna. From Newsbook & TVM

 

An elderly woman was seriously injured this afternoon after she lost control of the car she was driving and crashed into an electricity pole, the police said. The accident happened in Burmarrad Road, Burmarrad at 3pm. The 70-year-old woman, of French nationality and resident in Mellieha, was taken to hospital for treatment. From the Malta Independent Net News

 

Five youths, whose ages vary between 18 and 23 and an adolescent aged 15, were this afternoon arraigned in Court accused of attempting to cause grievous injuries to Liam Debono during an argument with him at the Luqa Industrial Estate two days ago. Although they had admitted to the accusations made against them, when they were informed they could face a year’s prison sentence, one of them fainted. Lawyer Marita Pace Dimech informed the Court they were withdrawing their admissions and were pleading not guilty and she requested their release on bail. Liam Debono’s lawyers Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia said that although their client was not renouncing procedures he forgave the accused.  From TVM  & iNEWS

 

More than two dozen people were taken away for police questioning on Sunday morning after officers raided a building in Ħamrun. Officers from the police’s Immigration and Rapid Intervention Unit entered the house on Triq Farsons just before 9am following reports that the three-storey building was being used to illegally house migrants. A police spokesperson said that 36 people believed to be living in the building were taken away by police. Most are from the Gambia, Mali and Senegal and will be subjected to routine immigration checks.  The building’s landlord has been identified and is reportedly cooperating with the police. From Times of Malta The Malta Independent.

 

It is the people who will be the judges of the measures of the 2019 Budget, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said, as he reiterated the importance of distributing the wealth being created. In a brief telephone contribution on One Radio on Sunday morning, the Prime Minister, who is in Shanghai attending the China International Import Expo, said, without elaborating, that Malta would be signing a investment framework agreement with China. From MaltaToday  & One News. 

 

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia heavily criticised the government in a short radio interview on NET FM, arguing that government has no plan to fix problems which it has created. He said that government does not admit to problems which everyone else knows about, and just continues to persist on what the Finance Minister says is a surplus. “People are seeing things differently.” From The Malta Independent  & Net News.

 

Nickie Vella de Fremeaux has openly condemned the recent leak of a private SMS conversation with Nationalist MP Hermann Schiavone (by Manuel Delia on his blog). In the SMS exchange, which took place last March, Schiavone told Vella de Fremeaux that her husband, Opposition leader Adrian Delia, was “like a piece of shit” after a few drinks. “This cannot go on. If need be, he will quit but I want to make sure he will do it in a dignified way,” the MP said. Contacted by Lovin Malta, Vella de Fremeaux said she has no comments to make at this stage other than to condemn the leak of a private conversation to the press. From Lovin’ Malta

 

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca delivered the closing speech after today’s Fun Run in aid of L-Istrina, stating that generosity and solidarity distinguishes the Maltese people from all other countries in the world. The President’s Solidarity Fun Run 2018, which also happens to be the 10th edition, was held.  The event was organised in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, and is considered to be one of the first major fund-raisers, as a number of events start being held to raise funds for the annual L-Istrina which is held on Boxing Day. From the Malta Independent.
