TGCOM: The President of the Republic of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, said that “Italy and Malta are two neighbouring states of Europe and have to work together on migratory flows rather than making controversies among themselves. We are united countries and we continue to be united. This should be a commitment, not only of politics, but also of all citizens of Malta and Italy.”

The Maltese President is currently in Sicily where she addressed the University of Catania.

She added that “We must challenge the divisive dialectics that lead us to separate rather than join forces, destroying the initiatives that aspire to a lasting peace that we so much hope”. “Building peace – she added – may seem like an illusory cliché, and abstract fruit within the context of populist theories that stimulate hate”.
