Morning Headlines (Sunday) – The Sunday Times

The Sunday Times says that the it has met a ‘wall of silence’ in the government about allegations that former Energy Minister Konrad and Chief of Staff Keith Schembri were expecting payments to their once-secret Panama companies by 17 Black, a company now said to belong to the power station’s director Yorgen Fenech.

The Sunday Times also reveals that the government has given Steward Healthcare more time to carry out projects in St Luke’s, Karin Grech, and Gozo General Hospital. Neither the Health Ministry nor the company replied to questions on the new timeframes. The paper says that, at the time of the take-over, the government had promised the new concessionaire would honour the contract signed with Vitals Global Health.

Another story in The Sunday Times says that the European Commission is considering outlawing trapping altogether after the hunting community’s reluctance to follow the agreed rules. The paper says government sources show frustration at the hunting lobby for not adhering to new agreements which secured the opening of a new season.
